A quick guide to how we categorize windows and doors, so your count lines up with what we'll see on a walkthrough or in your photos.
Window and Door Types We Count
Single / Double Hung
Vertically sliding sashes, one above the other.
Counts as 1Casement
Hinged and opens outward by turning a crank.
Counts as 1Picture w/ Grid Pattern
Fixed pane with decorative grid bars, which don't add to the count.
Counts as 1Sliding Window
One or both sashes slide side to side in the same frame.
Counts as 1Awning Window
Hinged at the top and cranks outward from the bottom.
Counts as 1Garden Window
Box-shaped bump-out with glass shelf, treated as one unit.
Counts per paneSliding Glass Door
Counted per panel, so a 3-panel slider counts as 3.
Counts per panelFrench Doors
Counted per panel, each door in the pair counts separately.
Counts per panelBay or Bow Window
Counted per individual pane that makes up the unit, usually 3.
